A common problem with the Cummins ISB engine which contains the VP44 style injection pump found on 98.5-02 Dodge Cummins pickups, is a lack of fuel supply pressure causing significant damage to the VP44 injecton pump. This problem becomes more of an issue when a performace enhancement is added to the unit. One easy way to prevent yourself from having such problems is to add the Big Bad Diesel ISB light kit with your performance modification or even on your stock truck. The light kit includes a indicator pressure switch which is added into the outlet side of the supply pump or the inlet side of the filter housing depending on space restraints. The switch monitors the pressure going from the supply pump to the VP44 injection pump, and sends a signal to a light mounted in the cab at a place of the installers choosing letting the driver know that proper fuel supply pressure is not getting to the injection pump. This will let the operater know that it will soon be time to get the problem resolved before it does significant damage to the injection pump.
